Smit announced last month that he would leave after three seasons with the Volendam amateurs. He was promoted to the second division with Volendam in May 2024 and entered the winter break in thirteenth position. “If I decided with my heart, I would still continue. My common sense told me to stop,” Smit previously responded to his departure.
Purmersteijn had to look for a new trainer after the dismissal of Kiri Kalaitzis (former trainer of DEM) in November. The experienced Cor ten Bosch has been prepared to complete the season in Purmerend, after which Smit will take over in the summer. Purmersteijn is currently second to last in the fourth division.
RKAV Volendam starts the second half of the season next Saturday with a home match against Spakenburg.
