This increase began with the entry of Maribel Zamora, in 2008, as president of the Catalan Volleyball Federation when there were no more than 2,500 licenses and has not stopped to date, in a year that is expected to reach 15,000.
This season So far, 150 new teams have joined the Catalan competition, what it means to have, at this time, 1027 teams registered in competition; or what is the same, a growth of 17% compared to last year. In addition, it is also the greatest growth in the history of Catalan volleyball, after once again exceeding the 128 teams from last year. Since the 2014/2015 season, 615 teams have joined the Catalan competition.
Globally, Catalonia currently has 274 men’s teams, 15 of them in state competition; 670 women’s teams, of which 15 in state competition; and 83 mixed teams between the junior category and the veterans league. The greatest growth has been that of the third division youth and female cadet strip, which went from 138 teams to 200 (+62). But overall, the women’s competition has 81 more teams than last season. The only women’s leagues that lose teams are the women’s senior (-4) and the women’s junior preferred (-7).
The restructuring of competitions with second divisions means that some categories, especially the men’s, lose teams in the first division, but win overall. A) Yes, the male categories add a total of 57 new teams, with the cadet and youth being the ones that grow the most with another 18 and 15 teams respectively.
Catalonia also wins 2 new teams in state competition, going from the 28 of the previous season to the 30 of this one. The two new teams are in the National Women’s First Division, which goes from 6 to 8. The rest of the competitions remain as last yearwith 9 teams in the men’s First National, 5 in men’s Superliga 2, 6 in women’s Superliga 2 and one women’s team and one men’s team in the highest categories of Spanish volleyball.
