The Joaquin Morodo Garcia exhibition

Metaphorically, Vitriol, indicates the alchemical process of the Great Work, which consists in the dissolution of the hardest and most selfish aspects of the person.

Summarizing the acronym, according to Joaquin, will lead to the solution: if the human being looks at his inner part, he will be able to free the spirit from matter. This the cleaning and lightening process, from a moral and ethical point of view, will lead to the Elixir of life.

«Everything must start from us» says Joaquin Morodo. “From our will, from our crossed path, in which the sacred and the profane must not be separated but coexist for our progress and that of mankind”.

The exhibition is also part of the cultural program of the Instituto Cervantes in Milano, a non-profit organization created by the Spanish government in 1991 with the mission of promoting the teaching of Spanish and the co-official languages of Spain, as well as contributing to the dissemination of culture in Spanish-speaking countries.

«I want to change the opinion of those who think there is little room for innovation»

Joaquin, what is your artistic path?
I was born and raised in Madrid, in a family of artists. My first point of reference was my brother Jorge; thanks to him I learned to study the incidence of light and the different perspectives on objects, making a large number of cartoons for comics before the age of ten.

At 16 I was already working as a model, and I started studying photography, specializing in fashion photography. I obtained numerous publications and opened a studio in Milan. I remember the emotion of seeing my works exhibited on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the famous Istituto Marangoni in Via Verri: an honour!

With smartphones, photography became accessible to everyone: at that moment I decided to create a personal style from everything I learned, with the desire to be able to show the world why I’m here.

And the passion for music?
Parallel to my passion for art, I have cultivated a passion for music, studying, writing and composing songs. I released a solo album, wrote for other artists and today I’m half of the band The Glaze Friendz, a project that fills me with satisfaction. I created it and I’m cultivating it together with the young Andrea Cuoco, aka “Kid Riff”, born in 1999, composer and multi-instrumentalist.

I want to change the opinion of those who think that there is little room for innovation or originality in the world of art, culture and music. For this reason, in my personal Vitriol I have combined each painting with a song from the homonymous album by The Glaze Friendz, creating a sort of “soundtrack” of the exhibition, which can be downloaded thanks to a QR code next to the painting.

Does fashion still find space in all of this?
Some of my works have my clothing as a support.

Furthermore, I have created a line of sweatshirts and t-shirts with the paintings from the exhibition that can be purchased using a QR code placed next to each painting.

Why did you choose Vitriol as your title?

It is an acronym which, in alchemy, indicates the procedure of the Great Work, which consists in the dissolution of the hardest and most selfish aspects of the person. The works on display are inspired by alchemical concepts and refer to art and culture – including Spanish – contextualized in the current world, to contemporary fashion and architecture and to today’s society, in its loss of values and in the concept of the transience of time.

I believe that if the human being will look at his inner part by carrying out a cleaning process, he will be able to free the spirit from matter. Everything must start from us, from our crossed path, in which the sacred and the profane must coexist for our progress and that of mankind.
