The International Association of Professional Footballers (FIFPro) announced that Ukrainian footballers Vitalii Sapylo and Dmytro Martynenko died due to the attacks of Russia.
In the statement made on the organization’s social networking site Twitter account, it was stated that 21-year-old Sapylo, who played in the youth team of Karpaty Lviv, and 25-year-old Martynenko, player of Gostomel, one of the amateur league teams, passed away during the Russia-Ukraine war.
In the statement where the first casualties were recorded in the football community, he expressed his condolences to the families, friends and fans of the Ukrainian football players.
According to the reports in the Ukrainian media, Martynenko lost his life during the bomb attack on the apartment where the Russian forces lived, and Sapylo, who joined the resistance units, died in the conflict near Kyiv.
