From research by RTV East and other regional broadcasters show that a third of all bus stops in our province are difficult to reach for people with disabilities. Blind and partially sighted people in particular have difficulty getting to bus stops, and as many as half of all stops in North Holland are not properly equipped for them. Drechterland scores worst in the province.
Rural location
Here, local bus 412 runs past villages such as Venhuizen and Schellinkhout. Many bus stops in the municipality are located in rural areas and along narrow roads. It is difficult, for example, to construct raised sidewalks so that there is minimal height difference.
That is one of the criteria for an easily accessible bus stop, to properly serve people who have difficulty walking or are in a wheelchair.
