Violet Grohl releases her debut album “Be Sweet to Me” on May 29th via Auroura Records/Republic Records. The musician also shared a new single, “595”, including a music video for the track, directed by Nikki Milan Houston.
“Be Sweet to Me” was recorded in late 2024 to early 2025 at producer Justin Raisen’s home studio in Los Angeles, with a group of musicians brought together in the spirit of the Wrecking Crew session musicians of the 1960s and 1970s. The first track to emerge was “Thum,” which Grohl released in September.
In a press release, Grohl said she was inspired by alternative music of the late 1980s and early 1990s – including Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins and the Breeders. “There is something incredibly powerful about this era of music, from the messages to the visuals – it is authentic and raw,” she said in a statement. “I’ve been listening to this stuff since I was a kid.”
Mourning the death of David Lynch
In January, Violet Grohl released “What’s Heaven Without You,” a track created in the wake of the fires in Altadena, Los Angeles, and the death of filmmaker David Lynch. “This song was written in memory of David Lynch with two of my favorite collaborators in the world, Persia Numan and Justin Raisen,” Grohl said in a statement. “A few days after the chaos and devastation of the LA fires, we came together in our grief and pain and poured it all into this song.”
Grohl, the eldest daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, has been making music for several years. In 2021, she released a cover of X’s “Nausea” with her father, which the two later performed live on “Jimmy Kimmel” – accompanied by Krist Novoselic, Dave Lombardo and Greg Kurstin.
She has also appeared on tour with the Foo Fighters several times, including at their tribute concerts for late drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. In 2023, she sang a duet with her father, “Show Me How.”
