Violent statement from mother murdered Sumanta: “We picked her up in a closed coffin”

The words of a deeply emotional Sharmila Nanda went through the marrow this afternoon in the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam. The mother of the stabbed Sumanta Bansi addressed the suspect Manodj B. “You, murderer, you are responsible for a double murder”, referring to her daughter’s pregnancy.

Prior to the hearing, Sumanta’s mother already indicated that she was dreading the reading of the victim impact statement. But she insists on telling her story against the suspect. “We dropped her off alive at Zanderij airport (in Suriname, ed.) And a few years later we came to pick up pieces of bones in a closed coffin.”

Tears at the suspect because of mother’s words

The words reached Horinees B., who could not hold back his tears. But he need not expect sympathy or forgiveness from Sumanta’s parents. They think he’s just trying to make himself better off. And that at the expense of Sumanta.

“We have been kept on the line for so long. Lies upon lies. He has always denied. And the moment he saw no other way out and was punished, he started talking. He tries to save his own skin. Instead of regret He blames Sumanta for his actions”, whereupon the mother becomes too much.

Self defense

Sumanta’s mother refers to B.’s statement that he acted in self-defense. Sumanta allegedly stole money from him. And during an argument she would have grabbed a knife and waved at him. During the ensuing struggle, he allegedly grabbed the knife and stabbed her six times.

Sumanta’s parents are mainly left with questions. Questions to which there were no answers today. “We just can’t understand why she was killed. What is this the only option?”

The judge will rule on September 11.
