Viktoria Cologne wins at Waldhof Mannheim – football – sports

Mannheim probably had their best chance when Joseph Boyamba benefited from coordination problems in the Cologne defense, but Nicolas was able to clear his powerful shot to a corner (36th minute).

Two Viktoria players have to leave injured

The first half of the game was characterized more by injury breaks than a flood of chances. It was particularly hard on Cologne, who had to change twice. Patrick Koronkiewicz injured himself in a sprint without outside influence (29th), and Lenn Jastremski had to pass after Marco Höger tackled the ball (37th).

For the latter, David Philipp came into play, who was caught in a header duel shortly afterwards. However, he was able to continue playing with a turban. A stroke of luck from Cologne’s point of view, because Philipp scored the lead in the second half shortly after the restart (46′). After a long pass, he left two defenders in front of the opposing penalty area and hit a low shot from around 19 meters with his left.

Philipp fails at the post

In the 50th minute he almost made it 2-0 after a pass from Jeremias Lorch, but his shot from the penalty spot only grazed the left outer post. In the 55th minute, Florian Heister, who was also a substitute in the first half, failed with the next Cologne chance at Waldhof-keepers Timo Konigsmann.

Victoria was now largely in control of the game. In the 65th minute, Simon Handle tried a long-range shot and just missed the target. In the 74th minute, the goal scorer Philipp was over – apparently an aftermath of the collision in the first half.

His goal was still enough to win, as Waldhof remained too harmless offensively. Marcel Costly still had the best chance to equalize after a corner with a header, but just missed the Cologne goal (78th).
