The shepherd of the fictional small village of Kembleford continues to solve crimes in Yle’s series, but no longer in reruns.
They start today Father Brown and his flock – the new episodes of the 13th season of the series, which are currently running in Great Britain.
There will be more drama than usual, as Father Brown’s position is threatened. The consecration of Fox, a canon who holds a grudge against him, as a bishop is fast approaching.
But before that, there is good news for fans: Mrs. Bridgette McCarthy is making a surprise return to the series after a four-year absence. When the character left the series, Finnish viewers were also sad. They missed him so much.
Actor by Sorcha Cusack however, the visit will be short, as he is only involved in the opening episode.

There are a couple of reasons for McCarthy’s return. Firstly, the former parish secretary wants to sell his house after moving to Ireland. Secondly, he has arrived to meet his cousin Máire Fitzpatrick, who calls McCarthy Aunt Bridget.
The aunt has sent Máire, who was pregnant, to St. Mary’s shelter, where in the 1950s women in need of improvement were kept. Máire is not married. Now Máire has fled the terrible conditions with her six-week-old baby Rosie. Rosie’s twin brother Jack has been left behind by his new mother.
I guess Aunt Bridget will help get the boy back before he’s put up for adoption? Well, it won’t help, but Father Brown will.

In return, the priest receives the cruel nurse Hyde, who does not understand at all why Father Brown defends the corrupt Máire.
– Unmarried children should be raised in a loving Christian marriage, Hyde declares.
McCarthy somewhat agrees.
It soon becomes clear that Jack is being adopted the day after Father Brown’s visit. When the next day comes, Máire is suspected of murder.
