The economy in Vietnam grew strongly again in the third quarter, mainly due to exports and income from tourism. Compared to the same period last year, the gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 13.67 percent, as the National Statistics Office (GSO) announced on Thursday. Growth in the first nine months of the year is 8.83 percent.

The growth was supported, among other things, by a sharp increase in exports, for example of electronic accessories and clothing to the USA. But the reopening of the Southeast Asian country to tourism after the pandemic-related border closures in 2020 and 2021 also gave a strong boost to Vietnam’s GDP.

It is the first time since 2009 that Vietnam has grown more than 10 percent in a quarter, according to the statistics agency. For the year as a whole, the country is aiming for a GDP target of 6.0 to 6.5 percent. (dpa)
