Jos Verstappen, former F.1 driver and Max’s father, took part in the Rallye de Wallonie last Sunday, the 4th stage of the Belgian Rally Championship. The former Benetton took part in the appointment with a different co-driver than his usual Renaud Jamoul, who was absent due to a broken ankle. Jasper Vermeulen was at his side in the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. During the thirteenth special test, the two were involved in a serious accident: the car hit a pole and then overturned. Despite the violence of the impact, both escaped unharmed. «It was a right bend, we entered it a little too fast and the car skidded – said Verstappen -. We hit a pole, the car rotated and overturned. The most important thing is that we are safe and sound.” Up to that point the race was progressing well: at the end of the first day Jos occupied the provisional third place, despite a 40″ penalty received in the initial test. Due to the accident and retirement he dropped to fourth place in the championship. (Instagram/@iamjoaopereira)
