In 2010, Els Clottemans was sentenced by the assize court in Tongeren to a prison sentence of thirty years. From then on, she is considered the one who sabotaged the parachute of her love rival Els Van Doren. As a result, Van Doren crashed into a garden with deadly speed. Clottemans himself, however, always insisted that he had nothing to do with the murder. 16 years after her conviction, she is allowed to leave prison under electronic supervision. According to Jef Vermassen, lawyer for the relatives, “very painful”. Clottemans himself is “grateful for the new opportunities”.
