The hosts got off to a much better start. Monju Momuluh had a great chance to take the lead in the second minute, but the attacker slipped away from the goal at the crucial moment, allowing goalkeeper Nahuel Noll to secure the ball. Hannover only became dangerous later: Benjamin Källman (30′), however, hit the ball with his weaker foot and missed clearly.
Even after the break, a balanced game developed. Once again Momuluh had the best opportunity for Bielefeld (46th). A little later, however, an unfortunate action led to the decisive scene in the game: Stefano Russo received the ball in his own penalty area. After a lengthy VAR check, referee Eric Weisbach awarded a penalty, which Leopold safely converted for Hannover. The supposed Arminia equalizer deep in stoppage time correctly didn’t count.
When Tim Walter returned to the coaching bench at Holstein Kiel, he at least stopped the losing streak of the relegation-threatened second division soccer team. Jonas Therkelsen (63′) gave the hosts, who are still just above the relegation zone, a draw just shortly after David Mokwa (61′) fell behind. The Saarlanders missed out on their third win in a row, but are still firmly involved in the tight promotion race.
After a harmless attempt by the guests from Lukas Petkov (33′), Kiel’s Andu Kelati (35′) missed his best chance to date after a free-standing cross, but his volley went wide to the right of the goal. Once again Kelati (41′) failed from a distance before the break before Elversberg goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof.
Bundesliga relegated Kiel pushed for quick ball wins, but there was a lack of accuracy in the final third. After Mokwa completed the guests’ first quick attack, the game picked up speed – and Kiel came back immediately. Therkelsen punished Elversberg’s sloppy tackling in midfield with a strong individual action.
