Victory in the middle distance: Golden crowning for Kazmaier

Zhangjiakou (dpa) – Golden coronation for Linn Kazmaier: After three silvers and one bronze, the 15-year-old won the middle distance in cross-country skiing at the Paralympics in Beijing.

On Saturday, the teenager from the Römerstein ski guild with guide Florian Baumann had a 39.5-second lead over Chinese Yue Wang and jumped in the air with both skis at the finish line. Kazmaier is the second youngest athlete at the entire Beijing Games.

Her roommate Leonie Walter, three years her senior, who won gold in the middle distance biathlon and three bronze medals in China, was not at the start on Saturday. The third German, Johanna Recktenwald from St. Wendel, took fifth place.
