Courage for everyday league life: Eintracht Braunschweig wins a friendly during the international break. But it’s not just victory that gives hope.

Eintracht Braunschweig is gaining self-confidence for everyday life in the second division: Coach Heiner Backhaus’ team prevailed against league rivals SC Paderborn in a closed-door test match on Thursday afternoon. Fabio Di Michele Sanchez (7th minute) and Patrick Nkoa (57th) scored the goals for BTSV. Sven Michel equalized for Paderborn (53′).

Eintracht took the lead after just seven minutes. After an assist from Johan Gomez, Di Michele Sanchez made it 1-0. Both teams then found it difficult to come to clear conclusions – but when things got dangerous, they did so. Paderborn’s Marco Wörner failed in a one-on-one against keeper Elhan Kastrati (29′). Shortly afterwards, Sidi Sané also had the chance to score the second goal, but SCP goalkeeper Markus Schubert parried (36th). We went into the break with the narrow lead.

After the break, the hosts got off to a better start. A cross from Sven Michel found Lucas Copado, who headed the ball into the far corner to equalize (53′). Eintracht’s response didn’t take long to arrive: Patrick Nkoa volleyed a cross from Di Michele Sanchez from the halffield to take the lead again (57′).

In the final phase the game had fewer chances, but the few opportunities were tough. First Sanoussy Ba cleared the ball in dire need, a little later Louis Breunig saved on the line (67th/68th). Shortly before the end, Erencan Yardimci, who was banned from the league, was denied by Schubert (88th). It remained 2:1.

The ailing Eintracht gathered courage for the relegation battle in the 2nd Bundesliga. After seven defeats from the last eight games, BTSV recently fell back to relegation place 16. After the international break, Braunschweig will play the away game at Hertha BSC on November 21st (6.30 p.m.).

Another glimmer of hope: against Paderborn, central defender Lukas Frenkert returned after weeks of injury. The new signing from Münster had been out since the end of August with a torn muscle bundle. The 25-year-old was allowed to play in the first half against Paderborn before being replaced by Louis Breunig at half-time.
