The first day of the Giro d’Italia 2025 goes to the Danish sprint expert Max Pedersen.
He prevailed on Friday in Tirana Albanian in front of Wout van Aert from Belgium. After 160 hilly kilometers from Durazzo to Tirana, Pedersen had the strongest legs in the top group sprint, won with the winning time of 3:36:24 hours.
Three stages in Albania
The Giro had started for the first time in Albania, and three stages are on the program in the country on the other bank of the Adriatic. Overall, the first two weeks are unusually unspectacular: some sprint and various medium-heavy hill stages as well as two shorter individual time trials will not yet give any major information about the balance of power in the fight for pink.
Week three have it with brutally heavy alpine stages. After 3413 km, the Giro ends on June 1st in Rome. At the start of the final stage at the gates of the Vatican, the late Pope Francis is commemorated.
