A competitive game quickly develops between the “red devils” and the “royal blue”. A scene decides the game.

The first win of the season for the 1st FC Kaiserslautern – and the first defeat of the new season for Schalke 04: The “Red Teufel” won the hit game of the 2nd Bundesliga on Saturday evening 1-0 (0: 0) against the “royal blue” and digested the disappointment after the 0: 1 at the start of the season at Hannover 96.

Schalke received the first damper after the strong 2-1 last week against Hertha BSC. Marlon Ritter became the match winner for the Palatinate with his penalty (55th).

Schalke trainer Miron Muslić had spoken after the emotional 2-1 against the promotion favorite Hertha of the “next highlight”, which his team should start with respect, but without fear: “It is important that we maintain our structure in the heated atmosphere on the Betzenberg and maintain a clear head.”

9,327 fans in the sold-out Fritz-Walter Stadium created an appropriate mood. This was followed by few highlights. Daniel Hanslik (2nd) and Moussa Sylla (33rd) had the only noteworthy chances in the first half. It was significant that Ritter’s hit fell with a penalty. Afterwards, Schalke already appeared and developed even less score than anyway – despite the comeback of captain and striker Kenan Karaman.

In the competitive but low -chance game, Ritter made the difference. After a foul by Schalke Ron Schallenberg, the Lautern captain hit the penalty (55th). In the final phase, Lautern was lucky that referee Martin Petersen took back a red card against Leon Robinson because of a male foul after reporting the Var.

“It was a hard game, even in added time everyone in the stadium was trembling again. Nevertheless, we did not allow little,” said the scorer afterwards at RTL: “We deservedly won for me.”
