Thanks to a strong first half, Bayer Leverkusen in the Women’s Bundesliga conquered the table neighbor Eintracht Frankfurt.
Leverkusen prevailed 2-1 (2: 1) on Thursday evening and now took third place behind leaders Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg (ten points each). Frankfurt remains eighth with six points.
Formered toll for Leverkusen
After the 1-0 win over the 1. FC Nürnberg, Bayer coach Roberto Pätzold against Frankfurt offered the same starting eleven. The first attack by Leverkusen led directly to 1-0. At a long -range shot by Bayers Katharina Piljic (6th) from about 18 meters, Frankfurt’s Jella Veit blocked the ball by hand, there was penalty. Vanessa Fudalla (7th) competed and hit the lead in the right lower corner.
Frankfurt had the first good opportunity after 18 minutes. Rebecka Blomqvist hit Geraldine Reuteler (18th) from the right side, which took the ball volley and scored just over the goal. But otherwise Leverkusen hardly let the Eintracht offensive develop – and struck ice cold again on his second chance. Carlotta Wamser played a precise chip pass from the left half field into the five-meter room in Fudalla (27th), which took the ball and scored flat in the goal of 2-0 from a few meters.
Frankfurt shortens – and is lucky
Frankfurt continued to do the offensive, but was able to shorten shortly before the half -time break. After a Pass from Laura Freiang, Bayer’s goalkeeper Friederike Repohl was still able to ward off a shot from Geraldine Reuteler, but she was powerless when it was margin of Rebecka Blomqvist (42nd). Fortunately, Frankfurt was in added time in the first half: Fudalla moved into the penalty area and was clearly hit by Amanda Ilestedt, but instead of penalty for Leverkusen there was only one corner.
In the second half, Frankfurt was much more present and at times laced Leverkusen at his own penalty area, but compelling opportunities for Eintracht remained in short supply. Remina Chiba (76th), who failed with a shot from extremely pointed angles on the second post with a shot. In the final phase, Bayer was able to free himself again and took the lead over time.
