1. FC Saarbrücken made a good bit of amends on Wednesday evening: with a convincing win against Wehen Wiesbaden, the blue-blacks picked up three important points and gained some breathing room to avoid the relegation zone.
In the disappointing 2-2 draw against Schweinfurt at the weekend, the fans of 1. FC Saarbrücken demonstratively turned away from their team: On Tuesday evening, loud cheers rang through Ludwigspark again.
The 2-0 win against SV Wehen Wiesbaden was only the second win this year in what is now the eighth game. And it was a deserved victory. Saarbrücken performed convincingly from the start and largely determined the game. In this respect, the lead in the 31st minute came as no surprise: after a corner from Florian Pick, Maurice Multhaup was there at the near corner and converted to make it 1-0.
Red card for Wiesbadener May
The red card just a few minutes later for Wiesbaden left-back Niklas May after an overly hard tackle was a kind of preliminary decision. Being behind and outnumbered, the guests found it even more difficult to counter the Saarbrücken game.
Brett von Bretschneider made it 2-0
Even after the break, the FCS remained on the offensive and pushed for the second goal. However, it was a long time coming: Niko Bretschneider only closed the sack in the 81st minute – and with a real board. With early pressing, the Saarbrücken team won the ball in the Wiesbaden half, Bretschneider sprinted forward and simply shot from a good 20 meters. Unsustainable for Noah Brdar.
Eight points to the relegation zone
With the victory, Saarbrücken increases its points account to 32 – now eight points ahead of the first relegation zone. At the end of the English week, the Saarbrücken team travel to MSV Duisburg on Sunday (kick-off: 4.30 p.m.). And on the following Wednesday the round of 16 in the Saarland Cup takes place.
