THEThe courage of parents is also and above all measured in pain. The courage to Stefano and Paola Lamma it is measured by the determination they have shown to get to the truth about the death of their son Leonardo, victim of one of too many road accidents.
It was April 7, 2022 when Leonardo, who was 19 years old, died in a motorbike accident in Rome. There wasn’t a fight, tests showed that he wasn’t going fast and yet he suddenly lost control and the crash was fatal.
No mystery, decided the magistrates who had launched an investigation to establish the causes, no responsibility. A tragic fatality, this was their conclusion. It is impossible to accept it for these two parents plunged into a tragedy in the face of which it is difficult to survive.
But they didn’t give up. They looked for witnesses and videos who could document what had happened on that stretch of road. And eventually they found footage, recorded by one of the cameras pointed right at the street, that showed how Leonardo had been thrown from his motorbike after going over a pothole.
Among the causes of road accidents
Not only that. Their appeal to find someone who could provide useful information led to the discovery that that hole was hastily “patched” the day after the accidentevidently to hide the real cause of the crash.
Still too little for the prosecuting magistrates who renewed their request to close the investigation twice more. «We don’t give up, we will never give up» insisted Stefano and Paola Lamma. Until you get right. Last November, faced with a third request to close the case without culprits, the judge ordered new investigations to be carried out.
The investigations are still ongoing, investigators will have to find out who ordered that hole to be covered, hiding crucial evidence to get to the truth. The outcome of these investigations will be known within a few weeks.
Nothing will be able to soothe the desperation of Leonardo’s parents, but their battle demonstrates how obstinacy helps you survive even when you no longer have anything precious to lose. And for this reason she has become an example for all those families of the victims who are unable to obtain justice.
