Victim of ‘targeted’ Purmerend explosion is the youngest teenage son of the family

Several local residents reported this to NH. An immediate neighbor removed the victim and his brother from the house himself. The youngest had burns all over, he says.

In the house on Maastraat There was an explosion around 4:10 am yesterday morning and then a major fire, which also spread to other homes on the block.

The police assume a targeted action. It would be a fire bomb that was deliberately thrown in there. The front door had been kicked in, neighbors said. A mother lives there with her two sons.

Homes uninhabitable

Several people suffered smoke inhalation, but did not need to be taken to the ambulance. Five houses on the block have been declared uninhabitable. The residents of those houses stay in a hotel.

A month and a half ago there was also an explosion at the same house, neighbors say: an explosive went off outside.

Neighbors are shocked. “The boy was burned from head to toe,” a woman told our reporter this morning about the victim.

She shook out of bed from the impact and heard numerous sirens. “Yesterday he was fighting for his life.”
