During the early hours of Sunday, a series of messages published from the account of Vicente Viloniprofessional wrestler and former Argentine bodybuilder, ignited concern among followers, colleagues and family. The publications, with a strong emotional charge, were interpreted as a possible request for help and quickly went viral on social networks.
In the first posts, the tone was markedly introspective and self-critical. Viloni described himself with harsh phrases about himself and revealed deep personal discomfort. In subsequent messages, he expressed feelings of loneliness, confusion and exhaustion, which increased concern among those who closely follow his sporting and public career.
The sequence of posts included exchanges with other users. When faced with messages of encouragement that highlighted his story of improvement and his positive influence on those who train or play sports, the response was one of strong personal devaluation. In another section, the former wrestler wrote that he only had his followers left and asked them not to abandon him, which reinforced the reading of a critical situation.
The peak of alarm came with a message written in capital letters and with typos: “SORRY. I CAN’T ANYMORE.” That phrase was replicated massively and motivated public expressions of support, calls for calm and contacts with people close to Viloni to verify his condition.
Hours later, Viloni himself came out to deny the content of the messages and clarified that he had been the victim of a hack. Through a post published in xexplained that on Saturday night third parties accessed his cell phone and wrote false messages in his name.
“HELLO FRIENDS, ON SATURDAY NIGHT THEY HACKED MY CELL PHONE. THEY WROTE UGLY THINGS ABOUT ME, SCARYING FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FANS. I WAS ALREADY ABLE TO RECOVER THE ACCOUNT AND I DELETED EVERYTHING SO AS TO NOT WORRY THEM. TO THE MEDIA THAT RECOGNIZED, I ASK YOU TO PLEASE CORRECT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. AND YOU ARE MY STRENGTH,” he wrote.
After regaining control of his account, Viloni deleted all the apocryphal publications and sought to bring peace of mind to those closest to him. He also thanked the samples of support received during the hours of uncertainty and stressed that the content disseminated did not reflect his personal state.
The episode once again brought into focus the impact that hacking accounts of public figures can have, especially when false messages allude to sensitive topics such as emotional health. In a few hours, a situation generated by unauthorized access led to widespread concern and widespread media coverage.
