Oops: Johnny de Mol is not exactly warmly welcomed by the VI family. The men of Today Inside also disapprove of his arrival as substitute Hélène Hendriks. “He is not suitable for that.”

It came as a huge surprise to Hélène Hendriks this week: she was surprised at some Talpa presentation for advertisers with the news that Johnny de Mol is taking part of her talk show. Hélène will present De Oranjezomer for eight weeks this summer, followed by Johnny for four weeks. So VI has three months off.

“That’s idiotic!”

The massive criticism of that decision is really striking: Johnny is vilified on the social media of RTL Boulevard and Shownieuws. People want Hélène as the presenter of this talk show, and not Johnny. They have the idea that his father John de Mol arranged this. And why wasn’t the presenter just informed about this properly?

Albert Verlinde finds it very strange. “He will be the test image of SBS. Wasn’t it strange last Monday that presentation at Talpa where Hélène was also a bit surprised by the fact that Johnny was going to present De Oranjezomer? Isn’t that crazy?” he says Today Inside.

Have decency

Table guest Job Knoester states that Hélène simply could not do the other four weeks. “I heard it’s different. Hélène could only do eight weeks, after which she would have to do things with Ziggo again.”

Albert doesn’t think that changes the matter much. “No, I understand that, but she made that program and I really think that SBS should have the decency to talk to her in a normal way and say: ‘We want to solve it with Johnny.’”

‘Not suitable for’

Host Wilfred Genee wonders whether Johnny is suitable for this. “Is he ready? That is of course the big question.”

Johan Derksen has his doubts about it. “I have a soft spot for Johnny and I think he is a very nice boy. It is a 45 year old man who remained 18. A nice boy. You have to use Johnny to his strengths. He certainly has that, but a talk show is just not his strong suit, I think.”

Sam Hagens

All in all, Johnny doesn’t seem particularly welcome in the VI family. “In that context, I don’t think it’s very wise. I’ve been to that HLF8 before. I didn’t think it was bad, but it didn’t get off the ground. When Hélène finally sat there it started to rise.”

Albert: “It is of course a great pity that Sam Hagens… He could have just sat there.”

Johan: “He was sent away prematurely.”

Albert: “That’s just a shame. I think they left it dangling for too long and didn’t give anything of substance at SBS 6.”
