Albert Verlinde causes irritation among the men of Today Inside by making himself slightly more important than he is. René van der Gijp takes the piss out of him, Johan Derksen is irritated.

Many viewers think Albert Verlinde is a great talk show guest, but hasn’t he gotten his head around it a little too much? He has discussed with RTL that he can occasionally join Today Inside again in the new TV season, but he himself acts as if there is a tug-of-war over him. “Bee breaking news I just sit with Renze Klamer.”

A lot of respect

Wilfred Genee thinks that Albert is exaggerating. “The question is of course: if you have a situation like Iran – America, Raymond of course knows a lot about it, but also Albert Verlinde. It is of course generally developed,” he says in Today Inside.

Then René van der Gijp takes plenty of time to make fun of Albert. “I have to tell you very honestly: we often laugh about it, me too, I don’t take many interpreters seriously, but if there is one that I do have enormous respect for, it is Albert Verlinde. When I sit and watch, he says things that make me think: I wouldn’t have thought of that.”

‘Then stay away!’

Albert just says fantastic things, according to Gijp. “Special things, yes. I saw him on Friday sitting at Humberto and then he said he was coming to sit with us, but during ‘breaking news’, so the fall of the cabinet, plane crashes, if something really happens, he will be at RTL.”

Johan Derksen appears to be quite pissed about it. “That really threw me off. Albert, stay away.”

René: “You can’t say: ‘Stay away’, because he is so good. He is just too good actually. He is too good.”

Johan: “I never saw that in the viewing figures when he was there.”

‘Nice at Welmoed!’

René thinks Albert is a poser. “If he is here, you should just watch it again at home. Then you might notice how good he is!”

Johan: “I never look back, but I think it is a demand… It will come from RTL, but then I think: if you are going to decide when he can sit here, keep him nice. Put him with that Welmoed.”

Wilfred Genee: “When is it breaking news enough to say: ‘Sorry, VI, it’s just not possible’? Do we have to have a meeting?”

‘From transmitter!’

René thinks that VI should be blacked out when Albert is in the picture. “I think: if it is really breaking and Albert is at RTL, then it is better that we do not broadcast. Then we will switch channels for a while.”

Johan: “We shouldn’t get a ‘favor’ from RTL that he can sit here for once! Come on! I got excited about that message, yes. Then I think: we’re not talking about Our Lord, are we? We’re talking about a gentleman who is promoting his own musicals!”

‘Such laughter!’

Wilfred appears to share the opinion of his colleagues. “That people can seriously say that about themselves! ‘I’m not at VI for breaking news!’”

René: “That you say that about yourself! It makes me laugh so much!”

Wilfred concludes: “He really meant it!”
