A day after the mediocre broadcast with Frans Timmermans, self-reflection appears not to be the strongest point of the men of Today Inside. They lash out at their own viewers. “They’re some crazy people!”

It’s typical of Today Inside: they can lash out like the best, but once their target is at the table, they’re as tame as anything. Frans Timmermans also benefits from this: he was at the table at VI on Monday, but a critical approach was not possible. René van der Gijp was daydreaming and Wilfred Genee and Johan Derksen also did not answer.

Destroy

The VI trio is also under fire in their own Talpa house for the mediocre Timmermans broadcast, but they do not recognize the criticism. However, they are apparently so touched by it that they open last night’s broadcast with it. “I had all kinds of angry people following me, are you? Everyone was angry,” says Wilfred resignedly.

René pretends his nose is bleeding: “Why angry then?”

Wilfred: “We should have destroyed him, we should have bashed him.”

Expectation pattern

Johan then lashes out at VI’s viewing audience. “Yes, look, that is the expectation, but it is not the case that if a few lunatics on social media believe that I should stick someone behind the wallpaper, that I do that on assignment.”

He continues: “I am sitting here with that man, I have known that man for years and Frans is, apart from the fact that he is from the wrong party, a very nice man. You are also a bit of a host, aren’t you?”

Starting point

René wants all guests to feel like they are in a warm bath. “What you say is always the case. I am always like that, even with Coenradie, that whoever is here comes out just fine. Why not?”

Wilfred: “That is the starting point?”

René: “Well, I always like that.”

Johan: “It would also be crazy if I bothered someone from the left here for an hour.”

René: “That makes no sense, does it?”

No, coddling political leaders makes sense… No wonder Wilfred can’t get an interview program off the ground at SBS 6.
