Before the break it was a tough game between the Norwegians and VfL. After the break, however, it becomes a different game – a drama develops.

The women of VfL Wolfsburg remain unbeaten in the second game of the 2025/26 Champions League season – and were able to celebrate a very late victory: At Vålerenga Oslo, the Wolves won 2-1 (0-0) with a penalty in stoppage time. At the start of the premier class, Wolfsburg won 4-0 against Paris Saint-Germain.

After a handball from Naina Maria Inauen, Janina Minge converted safely into the left corner in the 90th +8. After a tough first half, attacker Lineth Beerensteyn had put VfL in the lead (57th). Shortly afterwards, Sara Hörte equalized for the underdogs after a corner (60th). In advance, coach Stephan Lerch had spoken of a “great opportunity” to “score six points” against the Norwegian runner-up. That would be great considering the timing.

Just four days after the 3-1 defeat in the Bundesliga top game against FC Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg were missing the currently strong Svenja Huth (infection) and Camilla Küver, who was nominated for the national team for the first time this week (calf problems), in Oslo.

With two wins, Wolfsburg got off to an ideal start in the newly introduced league phase, but still has tricky tasks ahead of them with Olympique Lyon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea FC. The first four teams in the league table qualify directly for the quarter-finals and play the second leg at home. The clubs in places five to twelve will play the remaining quarter-finalists, and the teams in places 13 to 18 will be eliminated directly.

The two-time premier class winners from Wolfsburg last played in the final in 2023, when they narrowly lost 2-3 against FC Barcelona.
