VfL Wolfsburg overwhelms VfL Bochum – guest defense overwhelmed

Status: 10/29/2022 6:46 p.m

VfL Wolfsburg has few problems against a defensively extremely weak VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga. Felix Nmecha scores twice.

Sixth away game, sixth defeat: Even under the new coach Thomas Letsch, the sporting misery of VfL Bochum continues on foreign pitches. The penultimate table in the Bundesliga lost 0:4 (0:2) at VfL Wolfsburg and is therefore still in a direct relegation zone.

The Lower Saxony, who remained unbeaten in their sixth competitive game in a row, set the course for victory in the first half – thanks to Felix Nmecha’s goal debut.

Nmecha crowns his strong performance

For the 22-year-old midfielder – and brother of attacker Lukas Nmecha – it was the first Bundesliga goal of his career. And it wasn’t his only goal: Nmecha crowned his great performance again with a header (58′).

Full-back Ridle Baku scored the second goal for Lower Saxony (35th) in front of 24,037 spectators in the arena. Substitute Jonas Wind scored the fourth goal for the “Wolves” (80th).

Victory for Wolfsburg also deserved in terms of altitude

The second home win was more than deserved at this level. The visitors were clearly inferior for the entire 90 minutes and could have been more clearly behind at half-time.

Wimmer stumbled in the 15th minute in a promising position, but a shot by Poland’s Jakub Kaminski (40th) was blocked at the last second. In this phase, Letsch tried in vain to push his team to be more offensive.

Bochum desolate – Riemann upset

VfL goalkeeper Manuel Riemann was not at all satisfied with the people in front of him and vented his anger loudly on several occasions.

After the change of sides, there was hardly any change in the basic balance of power – on the contrary: the hosts became more and more dominant and also improved playfully against increasingly resigned Bochumers. The one-sided game was decided after the third goal at the latest.

Bochum tries to keep bankruptcy within limits

In the final phase it was all about keeping the already bitter defeat within limits for the guests. But the North Germans kept up the pressure and didn’t give the Bochumers, who were accompanied by 3,000 fans, a breather. VfL keeper Riemann prevented further goals from conceding several times.

Wolfsburg’s coach Niko Kovac was able to give players from the second row game practice without any risk in the last few minutes.

Bochum in the derby against Dortmund

On the next matchday of the Bundesliga, VfL Bochum will play the Black and Yellows in a district duel in Dortmund (Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 3:30 p.m.). At the same time, Wolfsburg is challenged in Mainz.
