VfL Wolfsburg: Kruse had a very open conversation – rejection from Los Angeles FC

Cancellation of Cherundolo

With the Max Kruse personnel, VfL Wolfsburg wants to deal more intensively with the start of the changeover period in the new year. “We still have a month and a half until January 1st, when the transfer window officially opens. That’s why we said clearly: The focus for us as a club is first on the season, on the games,” said Wolfsburg’s sports director Marcel Schäfer on Tuesday about the home game against Borussia Dortmund (2-0) on the “Sky” broadcaster.

“We are in contact with the player and his agent. I think we had a very open and honest conversation, especially with Max, about how we want to go about the next few weeks and months,” said the former professional. It was “then decided that we would rely on the players who are in the squad today”. The 34-year-old offensive player with a contract that expires in 2023 was suspended by coach Niko Kovac some time ago, and he then suffered a torn muscle fiber. Most recently, Kruse, who is known for his public appearances and statements, ignited in the direction of captain Maximilian Arnold, who was undisputed in Wolfsburg.

Where Kruse is going is unclear. It is now clear, however, that Los Angeles FC is out of the running if it was ever involved – coach Steven Cherundolo, who is considered interested, put in one “Image” interview clear that the veteran is out of reach for the newly crowned Major League Soccer title holder: “Max is not an issue for LAFC in this transfer window. It’s not feasible.”

Kruse no longer an issue at Los Angeles FC: Cherundolo refers to salary cap

The former Hanoverian, who announced some necessary squad decisions, explained: “We have to observe the salary cap, we can’t do that if we want to keep the team together as it is,” said Cherundolo. “Max is a great player. He will find a club.” The clubs in the MLS usually bag their transfers in December or January – the contracts then apply from February. According to reports, Kruse will earn around 2.5 million euros gross in Wolfsburg by the end of the contract.
