Sports director Jörg Schmadtke confirmed a corresponding report in the “Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung” at the Bundesliga soccer team’s training camp in Austria.
“Should I talk to Niko about a title bonus when we’re standing on the town hall balcony? It goes without saying that a possible championship will be honored,” said Schmadtke.
The former Bayern coach Kovac presented himself in June with high goals in Wolfsburg. “Titles are the nicest thing you can get,” said the 50-year-old at his first press conference in the Volkswagen Arena.
According to the “WAZ” report, Kovac canceled his league competitor Borussia Mönchengladbach, who was also interested in him, before moving to Wolfsburg.
