The relegated team is aiming for immediate promotion again and is apparently digging deeper into their wallets for the first time. The new addition also aroused interest in the Bundesliga.
Scottish striker Fraser Hornby is moving from second division club SV Darmstadt 98 to VfL Wolfsburg. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the relegated team from the Bundesliga. The club announced this on Monday afternoon.
Wolfsburg’s sporting director Pirmin Schwegler said: “We were impressed by how clear he was in his decision to join VfL. Fraser also had other options and could have moved to the Bundesliga, for example.” He added: “Players like Fraser are very sought after on the market because they bring an incredibly good overall package. With his dynamism, his footballing quality, but also his personality, he will definitely help us, especially since he already knows the second division.”
According to information from Sky, the Wolfsburg team will transfer a transfer fee of four million euros to Darmstadt. The sum could therefore continue to grow through bonus payments.
The 1.95 meter tall striker was trained in Everton FC’s youth academy and came to Darmstadt in 2023. After a lot of bad luck with injuries in his first year, Hornby scored a total of 23 goals in the last two second division seasons.
