VfL Wolfsburg has parted ways with sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz with immediate effect. It is the next personnel consequence for the ailing Bundesliga club, which had previously fired coach Paul Simonis.
“Sebastian has always shown full commitment to VfL Wolfsburg, being loyal, committed and with a high level of professional competence. However, in the current sporting situation, we have decided that we need new impulses in this position,” managing director Peter Christiansen is quoted as saying in a club statement.
The Dane should temporarily take over Schindzielorz’s duties. “Peter Christiansen will work with us to find a suitable successor,” said Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Sebastian Rudolph with. However, the Dane is now also being criticized and under observation by the club’s control committee.
Schindzielorz was part of VfL’s championship team in 2009 and returned to the VW club as sports director in February 2023. In Wolfsburg, his downfall was primarily the failed squad planning, for which he was responsible together with Christiansen. During the big upheaval this summer, the duo made many mistakes and the VfL squad appears completely unbalanced.
Coach Simonis dismissed after bankruptcy in Bremen
After the 2-1 defeat against Bremen, the club had already released coach Paul Simonis last Sunday. For the time being, U19 head coach Daniel Bauer has taken over the professional team, which has suffered seven defeats in the last eight games and has slipped to 14th place in the table.
