Second division club VfL Osnabrück and sports director Amir Shapourzadeh are going their separate ways. From now on, Shapourzadeh will only support the bottom team in an advisory capacity and will retire completely at the end of the season, as the club announced on Tuesday. The 41-year-old informed those responsible that he would not be extending his contract, which expires in the summer.
Shapourzadeh’s decision is probably also related to the fact that the club has decided to hire a sports director again. The search for a suitable candidate is currently in full swing. Former professional Shapourzadeh came to the purple-whites in the summer of 2021 after relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga and helped ensure that the Lower Saxony team returned to the 2nd league in 2023 under coach Tobias Schweinsteiger.
However, VfL is currently in last place in the table. Shapourzadeh therefore had to put up with a lot of criticism about the composition of the squad, which, after the end of the winter transfer window, is also at the bottom of the lower house in this respect with a total value of 13.75 million euros.
