VfL Bochum’s Letsch on Mousset: “It’s up to him to get fit”

With a market value of 6 million euros, Lys Mousset (26) was the most valuable summer signing at VfL Bochum. Although the French striker, who Bochum brought on a free transfer from the unemployed market, has been at the club for around two months, he is still waiting for his first appearance. It is not to be expected that Mousset will play for VfL in the near future. Instead, the attacker works individually, as coach Thomas Letsch announced.

Not only the 54-year-old, but also interim coaches Heiko Butscher and Thomas Reis did not rely on Mousset this season. The former junior national player only has one squad nomination on matchday 5 against Werder Bremen, as a result his market value fell to 4 million euros in the latest Bundesliga update. “He’s not physically fit enough,” the coach said of the “WAZquoted. Mousset was “received a special program to get to the necessary level,” Letsch explained the decision for individual units. “We have to get him in a state where he can help us. It’s up to him to get fit,” he said.

In August, the former sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz, who was still in a managerial position at the time, was certain that the Bochum attack could be expanded by “an interesting facet” with the signing of Mousset. In return, the club gave the offensive player a “well-paid” contract until 2024, as reported by VfL magazine “deep in the west” called. Even if Letsch does not have an option for the top with Mousset, he can still fall back on three regular center forwards in Philipp Hofmann (29), Simon Zoller (31) and Silvère Ganvoula (26). The first two provided in nine games with two goals each for four of the six VfL goals in the Bundesliga.
