Bochum says goodbye to several professionals before the last home game of the season. Marcel Sobottka is one of them. However, he is missing from the ceremony.
In the last home game of the season, VfL Bochum drew 1-1 (0-0) from Hannover 96 on Saturday afternoon. While the guests had to accept a setback in the fight for promotion, it was a reconciliatory conclusion for the Bochum team, who had already been saved from relegation. This also coincided with the farewell to eleven professionals before kick-off. Marcel Sobottka should also be one of these.
But the midfielder was missing from the ceremony. According to “Sport Bild” there is a strange reason: Sobottka was stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the stadium. The other ten players received a large bouquet of flowers and a picture as a farewell.
In addition to the 32-year-old, Leandro Morgalla, Kevin Vogt, Francis Onyeka, Kjell Wätjen, Farid-Alfa Ruprecht, Romario Rösch, Noah Loosli, Erhan Mašović, Matus Bero and Callum Marshall are also leaving VfL Bochum.
Sobottka only moved to the Ruhr area in the winter. After leaving Düsseldorf the previous summer he was without a club. As a result, he only appeared on the pitch twice for Bochum: the midfielder made two short appearances against Schalke and Paderborn.
Meanwhile, Kevin Vogt’s farewell was particularly emotional. The defender once became a professional in Bochum and returned to VfL last summer after 13 years. He is ending his career after this season for health reasons.
