It’s only been uphill since the change
With Gerrit Holtmann, VfL Bochum has been able to retain the second-best scorer of the past season. As the district club announced, the 27-year-old winger and national player of the Philippines has signed until 2025. In 2021/22 Holtmann contributed five goals and seven assists in 33 competitive games, only ex-scorer Sebastian Polter (31; Schalke) contributed more goals (14).
“Things have only gone uphill for Gerrit Holtmann since signing his first contract with VfL,” said Sebastian Schindzielorz, sporting director of VfL Bochum. “He has been able to stabilize his performances, set a speed record in the two top German leagues in the 2020/21 season and played his most successful Bundesliga season last season. With his dynamism, he is an uncomfortable opponent for any defensive line. We are delighted that he has decided to stay with VfL for more years.”
Holtmann joined Bochum on a free transfer from 1. FSV Mainz 05 in 2020 and subsequently helped the club return to the Bundesliga. Since the transfer, he has increased his market value from initially 1.2 million to currently 4.5 million euros – a career high.
