VfB Stuttgart wants to reduce its squad for next season, as CEO Alexander Wehrle recently emphasized. Now it turns out which players it could affect.
With the exception of top talent Dennis Seimen, none of the players currently on loan to other clubs have a future at VfB Stuttgart, reports “Bild”. The 20-year-old has established himself at second division team SC Paderborn this season and is considered a possible number one goalkeeper for the current cup winners and cup finalists in the medium term.
This means: Leonidas Stergiou (currently at 1. FC Heidenheim), Laurin Ulrich (1. FC Magdeburg), Jovan Milosevic (Werder Bremen), Yannik Keitel (FC Augsburg) and Jarzinho Malanga (SV Elversberg) could probably leave VfB Stuttgart immediately after their return. It is said that the quintet no longer has any prospects in the country.
Two Stuttgarters are still fighting for new contracts
They are also apparently thinking about entering into further loan deals in order to give other talents more match practice. For example, junior national player Noah Darvich, who is said to be on the list at VfL Wolfsburg, and Lazar Jovanovic could be loaned out in the coming season.
While veteran Pascal Stenzel will leave the club after his contract expires in the summer according to “Bild”, the last word has apparently not been spoken in the case of Dan-Axel Zagadou and Nikolas Nartey. Negotiations are underway with both players to extend their contracts, which currently expire at the end of June.
According to “Bild”, the 26-year-old Nartey should have “significantly” better chances of getting another contract with VfB Stuttgart. For central defender Zagadou, who will only play five competitive games this season due to a serious muscle injury, it will probably result in a separation.
VfB Stuttgart’s CEO Alexander Wehrle said in a “one-two” on “Sport1” on Sunday that the current squad was “too big”: “Some players will be leaving us.”
