After the 1: 2 (0: 1) at RB Leipzig on Friday evening, VfB Stuttgart is threatened with a fall to a relegation zone in the Bundesliga this weekend. Coach Bruno Labbadia’s team has been without a win for four games and the fans have so far waited in vain for new winter signings. The search for a central midfielder has been going on for a long time – and now there is a new candidate: Genki Haraguchi from Union Berlin.
Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed on the sidelines of the Bundesliga game at “DAZN” with a view to the Japanese: “He could become an issue. At least he’s an interesting player. Whether that’s a possibility for us will be seen in three days.”
Haraguchi has been playing for the “Iron” since summer 2021 and was part of the permanent staff last season. The 31-year-old made 42 appearances in all competitions and was involved in eight goals (two goals, six assists). This season there is still no scorer point in 18 games. The competition in midfield has recently increased with the signing of Aïssa Laïdouni (26).

Jannes Horn | VfL Bochum -> 1. FC Nuremberg | Market value: €1.8 million
VfB had been trying hard to get Josuha Guilavogui (32) from VfL Wolfsburg in the past few weeks, but a change is now off the table. Instead, Haraguchi could now come to the Swabians, although it is unclear whether the transfer is feasible without Naouirou Ahamada (20) leaving. In the meantime, the 20-year-old was about to move to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, but will probably stay in Stuttgart for now. Those responsible for the Bundesliga club had declared at the beginning of the month that they would not be forced to sell players.
