VfB Stuttgart: Stiller fit for the second leg against Celtic – Coach Hoeneß warns

Defense chief Chabot suspended

Angelo Stiller did not suffer a long-term injury after a blow to the knee and is available for VfB Stuttgart in the second round of the Europa League against Celtic Glasgow. The midfield strategist completed team training on Wednesday.

The Swabians won the first leg 4-1 against the Scots, but coach Sebastian Hoeneß warned against the reunion on Thursday evening (6:45 p.m./RTL). “It’s only half time, so to speak,” said the coach. “But we are confident that we will qualify for the next round.”

VfB could afford a defeat by two goals in front of their home crowd. However, Hoeneß hopes that his team will gain self-confidence for the crucial weeks in the season finale. “We want to win, that’s important to us.”

Unlike Stiller, Jeff Chabot is unavailable due to a yellow card suspension. The coach still left it open as to who would represent the defense chief. “Wait and see what happens tomorrow,” said Hoeneß. “Jeff is missing, but we have alternatives.” One option is to deploy Ramon Hendriks in the center of defense. In the first leg, the 24-year-old played as a left-back. Maximilian Mittelstädt could be used on the outside. But Luca Jaquez and Ameen al-Dakhil are also alternatives.

Should VfB Stuttgart reach the round of 16, they will face a duel with a club from Portugal, FC Porto or SC Braga. The decision will be made in the draw on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
