VfB Stuttgart: Silas’ adviser criticizes coach Bruno Labbadia

VfB players wrongly positioned?

Despite his next market value drop of 3 million to 10 million euros, attacker Silas is still one of the most valuable players at VfB Stuttgart. Coach Bruno Labbadia prefers to field the 24-year-old new DR Congo international in the center of attack in his 4-3-3 system. Since then, Silas has only scored one goal and was recently criticized for it by his coach. Mehmet Eser, the striker’s adviser from the agency M-Soccermanagement, now shot in the “Picture“ against Labbadia, went to this for the positioning of his client.

“You can’t field Silas as a nine. You can’t turn a baker into a butcher. The boy needs a start. Everyone knows that Silas is a right winger,” Eser is quoted as saying by the newspaper. Of his 91 competitive games for VfB, the right-footed player played 51 on the right (17 goals/11 assists), 17 on the left (5 goals/2 assists) and 23 on the “nine” (4 goals/3 assists).

On the right, Labbadia usually trusted winter signing Gil Dias (26). There is a vacuum in the center after top scorer Serhou Guirassy (27) injured his adductor muscles, which is why Silas had to fill this role more often. Dias’ Portuguese compatriot Tiago Tomás (20) usually comes down the left flank, and Juan José Perea (23) and Luca Pfeiffer (26) usually brought Labbadia as wildcards – together they have only scored one Bundesliga goal this season.

Eser continued to criticize the coach: “Bruno Labbadia has a reputation for saving teams. He’s a fireman and has done very, very well in his previous positions. But at VfB he seems to have left his fire engine at home.” Since the 57-year-old took over in December, Stuttgart have won just two of eleven games, including the Pokal round of 16 against Paderborn with late goals from Guirassy and Dias after a long 0 :1 had stood.
