At FC St. Gallen, Matej Maglica was able to show himself in a first division for the first time in the past year and a half. The 24-year-old central defender at VfB Stuttgart is now in the Bundesliga. With Darmstadt 98, the Swabians agreed on a loan from the Croat, who has mainly played in the reserve at VfB. In the German upper house, he only recorded one joker use for a few minutes. Only three years ago Maglica came to Stuttgart from the Oberliga from Göppinger Sportverein and this summer again from St. Gallen with a buyback option.
“Lilien” trainer Torsten Lieberknecht explained: “Matej is a left central defender with an extraordinary physical constitution, who fits in very well with our preferred basic order. He will be able to develop further with us. I look forward to helping him with his next development steps.”
Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth at VfB said: “Matej has the prospect of continuing his very positive development of the past few years by playing regularly in the Bundesliga in Darmstadt.” The contract in Stuttgart is valid until 2025.
