VfB Stuttgart is hoping for a quick contract extension with national player Deniz Undav.
“We don’t want to omit anything that is sportingly and economically justifiable for the club to work with Deniz Undav beyond this and next summer,” explained sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth to “Sky”.
The striker has a contract in the country until the summer of 2027. Undav has scored 25 goals in 45 competitive games for VfB Stuttgart so far this season. The Swabians logically want to keep their top performer for the long term.
“It is also clear that we want to make rapid progress. We are in intensive discussions with his management. I hope that we can get to the point very quickly,” said Wohlgemuth.
Exciting goalkeeper question at VfB Stuttgart
The VfB official also commented on the goalkeeper situation in an interview with the TV station. Dennis Seimen has been loaned to SC Paderborn until the end of the season. The 20-year-old recently impressed in the relegation first leg at VfL Wolfsburg (0-0). Alexander Nübel, however, is on loan from FC Bayern until the summer.
What’s next in the Stuttgart box? “Dennis Seimen still has a very, very important game to play for SC Paderborn on Monday. In Alexander Nübel we have a very strong goalkeeper who has mostly kept our goal clean for over three years and who will also be with us in the DFB Cup final tomorrow. We will then deal with the goalkeeping situation for next year from next week,” Wohlgemuth reacted on Friday.
VfB Stuttgart is expecting a busy transfer summer
One thing is already certain: VfB Stuttgart will play in the Champions League again next season.
“We want to continue to operate solidly and we also have to address two issues. Of course, on the one hand, we want to send a team onto the field that meets the requirements of the Champions League and the Bundesliga. On the other hand, we want to set ourselves long-term goals, both economically and sportingly. One sometimes speaks against the other, but it is clear that, as always, it will be a strenuous transfer summer,” said Wohlgemuth about squad planning.
The 47-year-old also referred to the possible dynamics. “We have to wait and see what happens during and after the World Cup and which player could leave us. We will then act accordingly,” said the VfB sports director.
