In-demand central defender

Ramon Hendriks from VfB Stuttgart is apparently a sought-after man on the transfer market. A day before the end of the change period, rumors first emerged that Nottingham Forest were interested, before it was said in the evening that Borussia Dortmund was keeping an eye on the 24-year-old central defender.

As “Sky” first reported, Nottingham inquired about a possible purchase of the Dutchman shortly before the transfer deadline. The VfB bosses immediately blocked this, as sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth confirmed around the 1-0 win against SC Freiburg: “Just as we will not say goodbye to our sporting goals, we will not say goodbye to Ramon Hendriks.” The defender still has a contract with the Swabians until 2028 without an exit clause. He himself also commented on Sunday, but rather evasively: “I can’t say anything about that at the moment. The interest from other clubs is a nice thing. But I’m currently in Stuttgart.”
The “Kicker” later followed up and wrote that Hendriks had come into the focus of BVB. The black and yellow are said to have left foot on the list for the summer. Then Niklas Süle will probably leave the club, and the future of defense boss Nico Schlotterbeck is unclear. Captain Emre Can’s contract is also expiring, but is likely to be extended.
Hendriks came to Stuttgart from his hometown of Feyenoord in 2024 for one million euros and over time became a top performer at VfB. He has played 59 games so far and this season, with 1,867 minutes, he is the central defender with the second most playing time at VfB.
