Shortly before Christmas, VfB Stuttgart is apparently giving its fans a gift: According to a report, the Swabians are about to sign an early extension with one of their shooting stars.
According to “Sky” information, Jamie Leweling – one of the discoveries of the current season and now even a German national player – will soon extend his contract in Stuttgart, which is still valid until 2028, by one year.
The offensive all-rounder’s signature will be accompanied by a hefty salary increase; he is said to be one of the “absolute top earners” in the country in the future.
It is said that the discussions between the club and the player are “well advanced”. An agreement is therefore “just a formality”.
VfB Stuttgart gets rid of the exit clause
Important for VfB: Leweling is said to have had an exit clause that would have allowed him to move for a sum of between 20 and 25 million euros.
This option should no longer exist after his extension, so that those responsible in Stuttgart could freely negotiate a transfer fee with potential interested parties.
In the past few weeks, Leweling had to take a break due to a persistent thigh injury; he previously collected three points in 15 competitive games.
Leweling has multiplied its market value
In mid-October, national coach Julian Nagelsmann rewarded the Nuremberg native with his first nomination for the German senior national team. Leweling thanked him for their trust with the winning goal on his debut against the Netherlands (1-0).
In the summer, VfB transferred five million euros to Union Berlin in order to sign the agile attacker after his promising loan last year. Since then it has multiplied its market value.
After his return, Leweling will take on an even more important role in the Stuttgart team under successful coach Sebastian Hoeneß. With the upcoming extension, the Swabians also gain planning security; saying goodbye should no longer be an issue any time soon.
