Very first rapper makes his appearance and tears of emotion at the jury: ‘The Voice Kids’ does not miss its start | TV

TVLast Friday it was time for the last episode of ‘The Masked Singer’, but Friday evening at VTM will also be all about music in the coming weeks. The new season of ‘The Voice Kids’ is just around the corner. During the first Blind Auditions of the new season, a new batch of young talent was ready to rock things up. For example, 12-year-old Jan Alexander can call himself the very first rapper of ‘The Voice Kids’. Maïté (14) got everyone quiet with her ode to her deceased mother.

No ‘The Voice Kids’ without the famous red chairs. Also this season there are four copies ready, good for six pairs of listening ears. New coaches Metejoor and Duncan Laurence take their first place in the swivel chairs next to coach Laura Tesoro. And in team K3 Julia shines as a new face to coach the youngest talents. “The first push of a button is magical, you’ll never forget that,” says coach Laura. Metejoor thinks it’s very exciting: “When something new arrives, I get butterflies in my stomach. A kind of healthy stress!”

Mix of talents

The first Blind Auditions start with a performance by the coaches. Laura Tesoro, Metejoor, Duncan and the ladies of K3 hit the stage with their own version of The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’. It is then up to the candidates themselves to show their most musical side. The coaches are immediately presented with a lot of unique talent, ranging from rock songs to jazz and even a young rapper for the very first time ever. As a result, the coaches are doing everything they can to bring in their favorite talents. Newcomer Duncan in particular appears to be a big fan of the red button. “Would you please stop now?”, Metejoor sounds. “Yes, it’s enough isn’t it! Can we sabotage Duncan’s button?”, the ladies of K3 laugh.

In addition to two new judges, Metejoor and Duncan, a new face will appear this season. This year host An Lemmens will be joined by Maksim Stojanac. While An experiences the performances on the sidelines with family and friends, Maksim measures the temperature just before the performances. The ‘#LikeMe’ actor does this in a very unique place: in the bumper cars at the fair. “There are a lot of kids who are stressed, so I’m going to de-stress them in the bumper cars and have a chat with them,” he laughs. In addition, he can also surprise a lot of children with a ticket for the Blind Auditions and that results in a rollercoaster of emotions.

Jan Alexander (12, Ghent) is Katarina’s brother who won ‘The Voice Kids’ in 2017. He will not sing, but rap and perform the song ‘Juicy’ by The Notorious BIG “I think I’m writing history because I’m actually the first rapper in The Voice Kids!” Jan Alexander already gets the whole jury along, because Metejoor, Duncan, Laura Tesoro and the ladies of K3 turn around. “I just forgot for a moment that we were in ‘The Voice Kids’. For a moment I thought we were all at a party,” Laura said enthusiastically. And Duncan was also a fan of the 12-year-old Jan Alexander. “Insane”, exclaims the Dutch singer. “You just stand there enjoying yourself as if you are a world artist.” Duncan, Metejoor and the ladies of K3 ultimately fail to convince Jan Alexander. The very first rapper in ‘The Voice Kids’ chooses Laura Tesoro.

Sofian (14, Oostakker) is surprised with a ticket for the Blind Auditions while shopping. He participates to show the bullies of the past what he can do and where he stands now. He chose the song ‘Anyone’ by Demi Lovato. “You are a natural talent, friend”, Metejoor says afterwards. “Thank you, I want to work with you.” However, Metejoor is not the only judge who is a fan of 14-year-old Sofian. “I’m sure you’ll make it to the final because this is just really good,” said Duncan. The words of the Dutch singer eventually convinced Sofian. In the end, the 14-year-old boy chose Duncan because he too had to deal with bullies in the past. “He went through about the same thing,” Sofian explains after his performance.

Maïté (14, Dergneau) participates to gain experience and to show that you can express emotions in music. She brings the song ‘Heal’ by Tom Odell as a tribute to her deceased mother. Maité manages to convince all jury members with her performance. “You are final material and I want that final material in my team”, Metejoor said. Laura Tesoro then had this to say: “You felt that song. It came straight from your soul. It was beautiful to watch and to listen to. And Duncan, who could barely hold back his tears, was also enthusiastic. “I want you on my team, but you don’t really need a coach. You are here as an artist.” Finally, the four red chairs turn around again and Maité can choose her coach. She ultimately chooses Metejoor.
