The Dutchman is 63 points behind leader Piastri: “I think we didn’t get the most out of the car in Singapore”
With second place in Singapore, Max Verstappen nibbled a few points in the standings on Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The Dutchman, who in the last few races has managed to open a window of opportunity to return to dreaming of a fifth consecutive title, therefore arrives at the United States Grand Prix with the sole objective of winning: “We will try to win. The last three weekends have been good, even if some are better than others. I think that in Singapore we have not extracted the maximum out of the car. This is a splendid track to drive on. It will be a Sprint weekend, therefore frenetic, but I am curious to understand what we can do.”
WORLD FIGHT
—
Asked about his chances of winning the title, the Dutchman preferred to gloss over: “I think it’s a 50-50 for the World Championship. Either you win or you don’t win. But I don’t think about it very much, honestly.” In recent outings the RB21 has changed pace, which has allowed Verstappen to fight and even beat the McLaren drivers. The world champion, however, is not sure that the car can perform at its best in all the remaining rounds of the World Championship: “I’m not sure that the car can be fast everywhere from here to the end. This car is a little different than those of previous years, so there’s no guarantee that it will perform well on every track. I prefer to focus on one race at a time. We’ll try to do our best here and then see what happens after.”
