Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck release their cover of The Velvet Underground’s song ‘Venus In Furs’. Lou Reed wrote “Venus In Furs” for his 1967 album THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO. You can find the track at the end of the article.
Depp and Beck’s new album “18” will be released on July 15, 2022. After working on a Hollywood Vampires song together in 2019, they started their own project. The work on this has spanned the past three years. In addition to the eleven cover versions, there are two originals on the album, “Sad Motherfuckin’ Parade” and “This Is A Song For Miss Hedy Lamarr”, both written by Depp. You can also find the tracklist below.
Speaking of the new album 18, Beck said: “When Johnny and I started playing together it really fueled our youthful spirit and creativity. We joked about feeling 18 again, so that’s what became the title of the album.”
Depp added, “It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the all-time greats and someone I can now call my brother.”
Alice Cooper on Johnny Depp
Hollywood Vampires singer Alice Cooper previously commented that Depp is a terrific guitarist, saying, “There’s a movie called ‘Chocolat’ where he plays that guitarist. He does all this Django Reinhardt stuff – and he really is. It’s not someone playing for him. Joe Perry heard that and called and said, ‘Can I get guitar lessons from you?’ That shows how good Johnny is.”
Johnny Depp made a surprise guest appearance on Beck’s show in England on May 29, 2022. The two cover versions by John Lennon, Marvin Gaye and Jimi Hendrix played there. Johnny Depp also joined bandmate Jeff Beck on several shows, although the actor was awaiting judgment in his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard at the time.
