The Vechtse Vaarparade will continue this year, the organization of the boat event reports. Last year, the municipality of Stichtse Vecht criticized the implementation, which threatened cancellation.

According to the municipality, the spectators on the side kept insufficient distance. Organizer Arjan van den Hoek then feared for its continued existence because he cannot meet additional requirements in this regard.

Now he reports that there is agreement with the municipality. “The bullet is through the church. Our party continues,” reports the sailing parade on Facebook.

The municipality is still holding out. “We are in good talks and the intention of both sides is that it will continue,” says a spokesperson. 100 percent certainty is not yet available. The permit for the event has not yet been issued, the municipality reports.

Special tradition

The Vechtse Vaarparade has grown into a special tradition. Beautifully lit and decked out boats sail in a long procession over the Vecht past thousands of enthusiastic spectators. The trip between Loenen and Maarssen is the symbolic conclusion of the sailing season. Due to corona, the edition in 2020 was canceled.

The event is scheduled for September 10.
