AMSTERDAM – Cooking together, playing games or simply enjoying each other’s presence: these are all things we do during the holidays, but have become almost impossible for Farid Bekirov (60). Not because his loved ones are out of the picture, but because a bloody war is still raging on the eastern border of Europe. And he can’t let it go. With a handful of volunteers, he collected hundreds of presents for children in Ukraine. “They deserve an unforgettable Christmas present.”
