After her season ended early last winter, the support for Vanessa Voigt apparently left a lot to be desired. The 28-year-old looks back.
The year 2025 started with a bang for the German biathlon team. “After several medical checks, I will no longer be competing in any races this season,” wrote Vanessa Voigt on Instagram. The Thuringian had a serious respiratory infection over Christmas and New Year, which forced her to take a longer break from competition and training. Instead of active support, however, a very lonely time awaited the biathlete.
In an interview with “Eurosport” she described: “It was shocking to see how many people are behind, next to or in front of you when you say you’re canceling the season,” said Voigt. It quickly became clear who was behind her: “I can count the people who supported me on one hand. It was shocking how few there were,” said Voigt.
Her close contacts also include her teammate Selina Grotian. Voigt emphasized: “It’s important to have people to relate to and not just talk on your cell phone. It helps not to hide, but to be able to share your worries and problems with someone.”
