Vandenbroucke: “No corona barometer at the next Consultation Committee would be a political failure” Coronavirus what you need to know

“I think we now realize that a reset of the method is needed,” the minister explained. Minister Vandenbroucke does not want to say that the decision of the previous Consultation Committee to close the doors of the cultural sector was disproportionate. “I think the decision came across as unfair, as disproportionate,” said Minister Vandenbroucke. “After the decision of the Council of State, I immediately contacted the cultural sector: let’s find a new method, let’s look for a step-by-step plan with which we can indicate what can be expected for the future,” the minister continued.

That step-by-step plan is the third attempt to set up a corona barometer. Such a barometer works with different levels. “You make a distinction between very serious, serious and things are under control. Depending on that level of threat, of that risk, you prepare packages of measures. They are known, they have been discussed,” clarified Minister Vandenbroucke. The final decision rests with the Consultation Committee. “We really can’t think that we can ever fly on autopilot, we will have to assess the situation every time,” the minister said. “The important thing is that the measures are ready in the scaffolding.” That brings perspective, it sounds.
